Punjab Assembly Speaker Addresses U.S. Congress Resolution on Pakistan Elections, Highlights PTI Lobbying Efforts

Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan addressed the media following a ceremony, discussing a recent U.S. Congress resolution on Pakistan’s upcoming general elections. He emphasized that elections are an internal matter and stated that any official comments would come from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA).

Khan explained that the resolution was prompted by concerns over internet shutdowns in Pakistan, which often occur during events like Eid and Muharram for security reasons. He acknowledged that there have been some reservations about the 2024 general elections, but noted that only 26 petitions were filed against them.

He further alleged that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, led by its founder, has hired lobbying firms in the past. According to Khan, PTI-backed members of Congress have been raising issues related to Pakistan’s elections. He pointed out that billions of dollars are spent on lobbying efforts in the United States.

Khan shared these remarks with media persons after a conference held at Lahore College for Women University (LCWU).
