Rawalpindi ring road is also known as Rawalpindi and Islamabad ring road. Work started on this highway in March 2022. This highway is currently under construction. The ring road will start from Channi Sher Alam bridge near Rawat and end near Thalian interchange close to the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway. This project is originally considered in 1991 under the government of Nawaz Sharif but due to the conflict and political issues this project is under construction and not emerge.
In 2017 when Shahbaz Sharif was Chief Minister of Punjab the project was discussed between China and Pakistan authorities to immune funding. in 2017, this project immune funding is discussed with Asian Development Bank. The total length area of the Rawalpindi Ring Road is 38.3km. It connects five interchanges at Baanth, Chak Baili Khan, Adiala Road, Chakri Road and Thalian. An industrial zone will also connect this road.

This project is started by Punjab government. This mega project that was started from Lahore to other cities that connect with this road. During a briefing by Nespak, PMU, and FWO officials on the project’s progress, it was revealed that the Rawalpindi Ring Road project commenced in September 2023 and is scheduled for completion by February 2025.
The current status of Ring Road Rawalpindi is under construction. The working is continuing and progressing. It is good sign that work is going fastly. The hope is that this project is completed early. Government is monitoring and considering this project to complete as soon as possible which a positive sign and according to the progress of government great achievement for them.
