Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli Retire from T20 Internationals After World Cup Win

Rohit Sharma has announced his retirement from T20 international cricket following India’s successful campaign in the World Cup. With 159 appearances, Sharma leaves as the format’s leading run-scorer with 4,231 runs, along with records for most sixes (205) and centuries (5).

The decision comes after Sharma and Kohli hadn’t played T20Is since India’s 2022 World Cup semi-final exit, returning only for the 2024 tournament. Sharma’s standout performance included 257 runs at a strike rate of 156.70, contributing crucially to India’s victories.

In an emotional statement post-match, Sharma expressed gratitude for his T20I journey and commitment to continue in ODIs and Tests, having led India to their second T20 World Cup title, seventeen years after their first under MS Dhoni in 2007.

After winning the T20 World Cup 2024, Indian captains Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have announced their retirement from international T20 cricket.

Congratulations to the legendary Indian batsmen on a magnificent conclusion to their T20 international careers!
