35% Price Hike In Rawalpindi, Price Control Committees Fail

Citizens are facing more than 35%increase in the price of fruits and vegetables as mango is being sold for Rs 250 despite government issues price list of Rs 145.Plum is sold for Rs 200 despite clear committee rate of Rs 130.Apricot is being sold for Rs 225 despite clear mentioning price list of Rs 225.Watermelon is being sold for Rs 60 depite price list mentioning of Rs 30.

Lemon is being sold for Rs 600 while the price list clearly shows price list tagging of RS 400, due to silent spectator role of price control committees.

Citizens are facing multiple problems due to non-implementation of price lists in the true letter and spirit, leaving consumers at the mercy of profiteers who charge much more than the price lists.

Despite tall claims on the part of concerned committees and city administrations price lists are not displayed and citizens are often dealt with exchange of harsh words.

Residents of Rawalpindi lodged several complaints with Citizens Voice correspondent terming it a sigh of relief for consumers who are facing several problems to make their both ends meet due to sky rocketing prices of fruits and vegetables.

We are facing a catastrophic life due to the increasing practices and money minting campaign of the whole sellers and hawkers. Prices are increased on daily basis as we feel every official concerned department is involved, Mohammad Asif, a buyer in fruit and vegetable market on Mandi More Rawalpindi apprised.

He added that upon talking to the price control staff everyone holds others responsible. Number of complaints have been registered but in vain as no one want to take responsibility on his shoulders.

Chief Minister has already taken strict note of this issue due to rising number of citizen complaints, but the concerned officials just blame the middleman for this price hike and fail to perform their obligatory duty, Asif added. Legislation is already available in government documents, but lack of implementation is the main cause behind this price hike. Time will tell that how this horse of bureaucracy and implementation authorities are harnessed to provide a sigh of relief to consumers.
