“Gilani: PPP Prepared to Engage with PTI for Political Stability”

LAHORE: Yousuf Raza Gilani, Acting President and Senate Chairman, has expressed readiness for political discussions, stating that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is open to dialogue. He emphasized the importance of involving all stakeholders to address national issues.

During the inauguration of a reverse osmosis water filtration plant in Lahore on Sunday, Gilani highlighted the need for unity among politicians to navigate the country through its current instability. He urged the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) to determine its preferred dialogue partners, referencing statements by PTI’s founder regarding negotiations with the establishment rather than politicians.

Gilani reiterated his party’s commitment to public welfare and political dialogue, advocating for a cooperative approach to resolve national issues. He clarified that PPP supports the incumbent government and will continue to do so while also engaging in discussions with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) regarding potential collaboration at the federal and provincial levels.

The acting president stressed the importance of making the upcoming budget pro-people, particularly focusing on farmers, youth, and laborers. He underscored Pakistan’s commitment to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6, emphasizing the necessity of ensuring access to clean water for all by 2030.

Regarding security concerns, Gilani asserted Pakistan’s capability to address threats on its borders and combat terrorism and extremism with national unity. He also emphasized the interconnection between economic prosperity and political stability, urging the government to prioritize PPP’s 10-point economic agenda for relieving the masses.

During a gathering in Multan, Gilani discussed the importance of developmental projects and advocated for granting big city status to Multan. He highlighted the benefits of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) in South Punjab and called for its expansion. Gilani also engaged in discussions with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif regarding developmental initiatives in South Punjab.

The event was attended by various parliamentarians and local PPP leaders, demonstrating widespread support for Gilani’s initiatives.
