“First Climate Change Authority Established in the Country”

The Federal Government has taken a significant step towards addressing the challenges of global warming and environmental degradation by establishing the country’s inaugural “Climate Change Authority,” as mandated by the Climate Change Act of 2017.

This landmark decision follows a directive from a three-member Supreme Court bench, which underscored the urgency of establishing such an authority to confront the escalating risks posed by climate change. With its establishment, the Climate Change Authority is poised to play a pivotal role in formulating and implementing strategies to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change and preserve the environment for future generations.

According to the provisions outlined in the Climate Change Act of 2017, the headquarters of the newly established authority will be situated in Islamabad, the capital city of the country. Moreover, the act grants the authority the flexibility to establish additional offices in other locations as deemed necessary to effectively carry out its mandate. This decentralized approach ensures that the authority can adapt its operations to address diverse environmental challenges across different regions of the country.

By establishing the Climate Change Authority, the Federal Government demonstrates its commitment to proactively addressing climate change concerns and safeguarding the environment. With its establishment, the authority is poised to serve as a catalyst for coordinated action, collaboration, and innovation in tackling the pressing issues of climate change, thereby paving the way for a sustainable and resilient future for all.
